Aleramo’s dream

Cereseto

The residential area of Cereseto is perched on top of a high hill dominated by the imposing castle with its large park, which is visible from the main provincial road below. At the end of the sixteenth century, it was given as a fief to the famous military engineer Germanico Savorgnan, who designed Casale Monferrato’s fortified citadel. The current castle, commissioned by patron and collector of arts Riccardo Gualino of Biella, was built in the early 1900s by engineer Vittorio Tornelli of Casale on the eighteenth- century villa owned by Cereseto’s Ricci family. On Good Friday, the Instruments of the Passion are carried in procession into the seventeenth- century Church of San Pietro Apostolo.
